CornerStone Software from SkillsBank Donated for Evaluation

Local software company SkillsBank Corporation has donated their latest version of Cornerstone Language Arts to LINC in return for a LINC staff evaluation of the software. LINC staff evaluated the software, which was developed for students in grades 3 through 8, for use with Intellikeys on a Windows 95 platform and with ZoomText (software for persons with low vision).

Cornerstone works well technically with both programs and is easy for children with special needs to use. LINC staff also found the software works well with mixed age groups because it is segmented into three levels that span grades 3 through 8. Its diagnostic tests indicate the appropriate assignments for each student. Cornerstone provides computer-based lessons in capitalization, punctuation, spelling and grammar, and printed worksheets for each lesson so students can continue working on their skills in the classroom or at home.

SkillsBank also just released Cornerstone Mathematics, a comprehensive basic skills software program designed for students in grades 3 through 8. This math program covers key math skills for students with an instructional approach that complements the curriculum and evaluation standards for school mathematics.

Easy to install, the program is available on Macintosh and Windows platforms and operates effectively in stand-alone and network environments. The starting price is $129 per grade level. A home learning series of both the mathematics and language arts software is available and will assist parents in getting more involved in their children's education.

Parents and teachers who are LINC members are welcome to stop by the resource center and explore the Cornerstone software during Open Lab hours. (Spring 1997)
