JAWS for Windows (JFW) 3.0
LINC has a successful track record in training instructors of students with severe visual impairments. Teaching students with visual impairments to use the computer with a screen reading program, such as JAWS for Windows, has become more common place in the last few years and LINC is the place to send your Vision Teachers to learn about teaching these skills. Since 1996, LINC has worked with faculty, staff, and students in 3 nearby counties, Baltimore City, and MD School for the Blind. Our workshop teaches real-classroom senarios in a "hands-on" format with each participant having a state of the art computer terminal with the latest software to learn on. Our class size is kept small, no more than 5 and we have at least 2 instructors present for each class. As an added benefit, we have found that this workshop is an excellent way to increase the computer literacy your teachers!
LINC has created a flexible curriculum schedule to meet the needs of you and your staff. This basics of this topic can be covered in a half-day. This is especially useful as a refresher course, or for those with some prior experience with JAWS for Windows. The full curriculum can be covered in 20 hours. A few school systems have opted for 12 hours of hands-on training and 8 hours of on-site assistance and technical services from LINC. This has covered things such as reading machines like Kurzweil or Arkenstone, Braille translation and production, and troubleshooting technical difficulties or conflicts with specialized software.
