Assistive Technology Resources In Maryland

Center for Technology in Education (CTE) improves the quality of life of children and youth with special needs through teaching, research, and leadership in the use of technology. It is a partnership which combines the research and teaching resources of the Johns Hopkins University Division of Education and the leadership and policy support of the Maryland State Department of Education. An excellent resource for teachers and other professionals.

Community Living, Inc. - administers a loan library and assist families and individuals in the Western region of Maryland in choosing the appropriate adaptive equipment and devices to increase their independence. They also provide services to the deaf community and have programs that assist people with limited sight.

Computer Reclamation Inc. - donates computers and other related equipment to non profit organizations in the metro Washington DC area, but other organizations can apply if they can arrange transportation. A $25 donation per computer is requested. .

The Council United for Recovery and Education (CURE) Network, Inc. a nonprofit organization run by and for persons in the disabled community whose mission is to empower persons living with mental and physical disabilities and persons who are home-bound by utilizing innovative, low-cost technology.

The Maryland Technology Assistance Program (MD TAP) provides information on available products, devices, services and other resources to assist individuals with disabilities and senior citizens.

The Phoenix Project - recycles old computers from private and business sources. They donate recycled equipment to schools and non-profits and also work with the Maryland State Department of Education to provide computers to schools.

Volunteers for Medical Engineering - Applies technology to the solution of problems faced by people with disabilities. Most requests are for the design and fabrication of unique solutions for specific problems. This is done by mobilizing the special resources of the aerospace and defense industry to advance the state-of-the-art medical and rehabilitation service delivery.
