Tips for Students with LD or Dyslexia

Here are a few ideas that might help a student with LD or dyslexia: ·

• Use a font with flags such as Times New Roman is helpful. ·

• Highlight every other line of text or use a bookmark to follow the lines of type when reading ·

• Record notes by voice. ·

• Do homework in small amounts with short breaks. This allows the child to reorganize and start fresh.

• Work for 15-20 minutes and break for 5 minutes (snack, drink, or walk around the house). ·

• If a problem or question becomes frustrating skip it or take a short break and go back later. ·

• Give your child a list. Break it up into smaller parts or only give them a few items at a time with breaks in between.  Each child is different, make a note as to what works best. ·

• Software like WYNN, CoWriter, WriteOutloud, Intellitools, Inspiration, Read & Write Gold and Draftbuilder can help your child organize and/or read.
