Hands-on JAWS for Teens

Saturday, September 16, 2000, 10 A.M.- 3 P.M. @ LINC Non-members, $25

The workshop will provide hands-on experience using JAWS for Windows and focuses on the special needs of teens between the ages of 12 and 16 who are blind or have severe vision impairments. Mike Birkmire, LINC Technology Director and David Goldfield from AbiliTech in Philadelphia, will instruct attendees how to use the computer with the screen reading program, JAWS; teach the basics of Microsoft Word 2000 for word processing; and help students create written documents and learn proof reading and editing skills.

Shareware & Freeware for PC's - A Columbus Day Workshop for Parents & Teachers

Monday, October 9, 2000, 1 P.M. - 3 P.M. @ LINC Non-members, $25

Participants will learn where to find shareware and freeware for school-aged children. Come and explore the bounty of the Internet, and learn how children with disabilities can learn through a variety of activities available on the Internet. Participants will receive a disk of shareware activities for PC's and will learn how to download files from the Internet, get tips on critiquing software for children, and go home with a super list of great web sites for children.

Thursday, October 26, 2000, 6 P.M.- 8 P.M. @ LINC Non-members, $25

Mike Birkmire will teach participants how to access the Internet and get the information they want in an efficient and timely manner. Participants will learn about sending and receiving e-mail, researching data bases and contacting special interest groups.

Hands-on JAWS

Saturday, October 28, 2000, 1 P.M. - 4 P.M. @ LINC Non-members, $25 \

This workshop is geared toward JAWS users of all ages and skill levels. The workshop will be led by Mike Birkmire and David Goldfield from AbiliTech, and will teach attendees how to use JAWS, Microsoft Word 2000 for word processing, and how to navigate the Internet with JAWS.

Envision Technology

Thursday, November 2, 2000, 5 P.M. - 7 P.M. @ LINC

Vince Steis of Envision Technology will demonstrate a variety of products for persons with learning disabilities, including Kurzweil 3000, Inspiration, and textHelp. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions relating to their specific needs and will have a chance to try out the products first-hand.

Keyboarding & Alternatives

Thursday, November 16, 2000, 6 P.M. - 8 P.M. @ LINC - Non-members, $20

Participants can experiment with a variety of typing tutors including ones made for young children, people who use only one-hand, and people who are visually impaired. Explore alternative keyboards including ones made for smaller hands or a limited range of motion, ones with larger keys or different keyboard layouts, on screen keyboards, and the Twiddler, which is a chording keyboard.
