Training Opportunities at LINC
The LINC staff, and outside experts and vendors with whom we have contact, have many topics related to assistive technology on which we can provide training. We conduct training for adults and children with disabilities, parents and professionals.

Assistive Technology and the IEP
This presentation focuses on AT and the IEP, including the legal definition of AT, assessing for AT, describing AT in the IEP, who should pay for AT devices and services, and how parents can include AT in the IEP plan. LINC can work with parents in developing the inclusion of AT.
Assistive Technology Overview
A chance to see and tryout specialized software and adaptive equipment in LINC's computer lab. This is a 2-3 hour workshop for professionals where a variety of software and equipment appropriate for their targeted group is presented.
Assistive Technology Family Workshops
Hands-on training for parents of children with disabilities in the use of assistive technology. Parents are made aware of assistive technology tools, strategies and funding sources.

Augmentative Communication Training
for Graduate and Undergraduate Students
Speech therapy students participated in a two day training program where they became familiar with augmentative communication software and hardware appropriate for use with people who have speech/communication deficits.
Boardmaker Make It & Take It Workshop
A workshop for special education professionals and parents who want to develop their own communication boards for children with speech/communication deficits.
Digital Camera Make It & Take It Family Workshop
Learn how to take pictures using a digital camera, use art software to create great gifts and craft items.
Hands on Internet
Participants learn how to access the Internet and get the information they want in an efficient & timely manner. Participants learn how to send and receive e-mail, research data bases and learn about special interest newsgroups. Adaptive equipment and software is available.
Hands on JAWS
This workshop provides hands-on experience using JAWS for Windows. LINC's trainers instruct persons who are blind or visually impaired how to read electronic text with the computer, access Microsoft Office 97, and navigate the Internet.
Internet Demonstration Training
LINC's Internet Access Center will allow persons with visual, physical and learning disabilities, mental retardation and reading impairments the opportunity to learn how to access the Internet from home and/or work. Persons with physical disabilities need special adaptations to control the computer, such as enlarged keyboards, special switches, trackballs, touchscreens, software which interprets and "speaks" the information on the computer screen and other basic communication aids. Persons with disabilities using these various adaptations need training to learn to navigate the Internet and avoid conflicts with the complex configuration of software and hardware that is becoming essential for Internet access.
JAWS for Windows 20 hour Course
A 20 hour curriculum for computer skills training in JAWS for Windows with Windows '95/98 and Microsoft Word. Adaptive equipment and software is provided. See the entire JAWS for Windows course desription here
Windows 98 for Beginners
This workshop will cover the basics of Windows 98. Learn how to configure your computer, install software and change the desktop to use its many features. Participants will learn how to manage and find files, add items to the start menu, and use the help menu. Accessibility features of Windows 98 are discussed. Adaptive equipment and software is available.
