LINC will host a Showcase of Technology for the Visually Impaired on Tuesday, October 8th from
4 to 7 p.m. Representatives from Young Opportunities will demonstrate a number of new products
that can provide access solutions for people who are blind and/or visually impaired. The demonstrations
will be geared to vision teachers and students and their families, as well as, individual computer users
with vision impairment, and will take place at LINC's Resource Center.
Young Opportunities sells computer and adaptive technology for disabled persons, and consults on
computer and employment-related matters for the blind and visually impaired. Qualified trainers will
showcase such technology as Braille Printing, Electronic Braille, Screen Enlargement Software, Reading
Machines, Portable Notetakers, and Closed Circuit Magnification Systems. That evening, participants can
also have a hands-on demonstration of the SAL, Freedom Scientific's brand new Braille Learning System.
LINC will also work with Young Opportunities to showcase screen readers, internal and external
speech synthesizers, scanners, and other computer peripherals. Many of the items are available at below
list price. Young Opportunities represents such companies as Freedom Scientific, Telesensory, GW-Micro,
Kurzweil and Duxbury Systems.
