The ADA Information Center for the Mid-Atlantic Region is one of ten regional centers established to provide training, information, and technical assistance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to businesses, consumers, and state and local governments. 451 Hungerford Drive, Suite 607, Rockville, MD 20850-4151. The Adaptive Device Locator System - a full-spectrum, searchable, assistive technology database. that helps users obtain information about specialized equipment and devices that can compensate for barriers imposed by limited physical capabilities. Elderly persons, people with disabilities, educators, and helping professionals can use the Locator to identify assistive and adaptive devices that can increase independence, facilitate education, and improve quality of life.

The Alliance for Technology Access - a national network of technology resource centers and technology vendors: 41 community-based technology centers in 27 states and the Virgin Islands, and 60 technology designers and developers. ATA technology resource centers help children and adults with disabilities, parents, teachers, employers, and others to explore computer systems, adaptive devices and software. http://www.ataccess.org/

Closing the Gap - is an organization that focuses on computer technology for people with special needs. Its extensive web site includes a searchable database of hardware and software for people with special needs. http://www.closingthegap.com

National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities - an extensive directory which lists many organizations that operate on a national level, which will be able to direct callers to regional or local resources that provide information, services, and/or referrals to individuals in the disability field--parents, special educators and general educators, early interventionists, administrators, related services personnel, persons with disabilities, and others. National Rehabilitation Information Center - 60,000 disability-related records in five searchable and browsable databases: literature, organizations, timely information, the latest research. Presidential Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities - evaluates existing Federal programs to determine what changes, modifications, and innovations may be necessary to remove barriers to employment opportunities faced by adults with disabilities.
