J.C. Stewart Memorial Trust Funds
Prince George's County Infants and Toddlers Program

LINC's efforts to provide services throughout the state have been rewarded with a renewed grant of $10,000 from the J.C. Stewart Memorial Trust. LINC provides a variety of computer services throughout Prince George's County to young children with disabilities, their parents and professional staff who work with them.

First, LINC staff meets with parents and professionals to plan the various components of the outreach program. LINC conducts full day hands-on workshops to train the staff in adaptive software and hardware. Hardware demonstrations include the Touch-window, single switches, the Trackball, and Intellikeys. The program also provides participants with the opportunity to explore special software.

The Prince George's Project also includes "Make It & Take It Workshops" where participants learn to make pressure-sensitive switches to take home. The switches can be used to adapt children's battery-operated toys. Using a switch and battery interrupter, children who lack the motor abilities to turn on toys or battery-operated cassette players can control their environments.

Thanks to the generosity of the J.C. Stewart Memorial Trust and the Maryland State Department of Education, Infants and Toddlers Program, LINC will continue serving Prince George's County for a second year ending in December 1998.
