Summer Arts Camps Full by Early SpringFor years, slots in LINC's Summer Camp have always been in great demand. The calls for registration seem to come earlier and earlier. Early on, savvy parents realized that before the last snow melted, they should call LINC to reserve a spot for their child in the summer program. One of the most disappointing jobs for LINC staff is having to turn down so many eager campers. This year, LINC was happy to announce the addition of a second camp session, which also booked up as soon as members received the notice. Session I, from June 25 -29, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., is for children, ages 7 through 12. Session II, July 9-13, is for children ages 8 through 14, and was added to accommodate the many requests for older campers. Both sessions include children with and without disabilities. Children with disabilities will participate fully in all activities, and will work side by side with their non-disabled peers. Where needed, the children will use adaptive computer equipment and specialized software that can be customized to meet their specific needs. Throughout the week, children will learn to use a variety of multimedia software, digital cameras and accompanying photographic software. The children will use cutting-edge software to write and illustrate their very own stories, complete with sound and special effects. Children will participate in hands-on art projects to complement their computer-created works, and will have a spectacular portfolio to take home at the end of the week. The campers will also participate in trips to art museums and harbor attractions, and will meet and interact with successful artists, writers, and musicians who have disabilities. If you missed out this year, mark your calendar early for next spring to call and make your plans. |
