Assistive Technology for Telecommunications and TTY

Several years ago, LINC was part of the AbleComm project sponsored by Bell Atlantic. The goal was to develop a list of assistive technology for telecommunications and TTY. While some of the equipment described is dated, the pages will give you ideas on the types of adaptations that are possible, and the links to manufacturers web sites are current so you will be able to find the latest information. We wil update this section of our web site, when time and funding allow.

AbleData Searchable database of assitive technology from Trace Research and Development Center - Trace is a research center at the University of Wisconsin - Madison which focuses on making off the shelf technologies more accessible for everyone through the process known as universal, or accessible design. A leading research, development, and resource center in the area of access to computers by people with disabilities.http://www.trace.wisc.edu/search

The Adaptive Device Locator System, abbreviated ADLS, is a set of databases that help users obtain information about specialized equipment and devices that can compensate for barriers imposed by limited physical capabilities. Elderly persons, people with disabilities, educators, and helping professionals can use the Locator to identify assistive and adaptive devices that can increase independence, facilitate education, and improve quality of life.

The Alliance for Technology Access - a national network of technology resource centers and technology vendors: 41 community-based technology centers in 27 states and the Virgin Islands, and 60 technology designers and developers. ATA technology resource centers help children and adults with disabilities, parents, teachers, employers, and others to explore computer systems, adaptive devices and software. http://www.ataccess.org/
