A Solution for Switch Accessible, Wireless Telephone Access

A single product solution was unavailable to address the needs of a particular individual with MS who needed access to the telephone. This solution is comprised of two products:

- The Ameriphone Dialog RC telephone

- A headset and wireless adapter for the headset

Together these items provide a good solution and are currently in use in an individual's daily environment. *After testing, the individual preferred using the speakerphone to allow her attendant to join in conversations. Further it was found that the wireless adapter was not necessary, and was not quite as reliable as the conventional headset.

Some Facts about the Features of the Solution:

The phone is a specially adapter speakerphone system which operates by switch scanning and includes a wireless remote switch.
The phone stores up to 20 numbers for one-touch dialing.
The phone can be answered via the wireless switch and the 20 pre-stored numbers can be accessed via the switch too.
The headset and 900Mhz wireless adapter free the user to move around within a distance of about 100 feet. The rechargeable battery in the wireless remote for the headset lasts up to 4 hours.
The wireless remote has a standard switch input and an air switch is available as another way of accessing the phone or remote switch.
For complete independence to call any number at random the system relies on a Speech to Speech relay type operator or other operator assisted dialing. This service provides dialing assistance and interpreter service for the speech impaired caller.
The headset provides private, location independent telephone access and includes an amplifier which should accomodate persons with weak voices.
